‘We really need bipartisanship on understanding China’: Andrew Phelan

Former DFAT Australia-China Council scholar Andrew Phelan says Australia really needs “bipartisanship” on understanding China.

It comes after a review from the Defence Department found there are insufficient grounds to undo the 99-year lease.

“At a sub-national level, be that at state government level or local government level, we need to educate our people a lot better,” Mr Phelan told Sky News host Caleb Bond.

“This is not a case of Liberal of Labor; this is something that’ll have national importance where we really need bipartisanship on understanding China.”
