One of Ruud or Alcaraz will walk off Arthur Ashe Stadium with a maiden grand slam singles title to their name, with neither winning major title before Monday morning’s contest.

Ruud toppled Russia’s Karen Khachanov in straight sets in the semi-finals to book his spot in the decider, while 19-year-old Alcaraz stunned the tennis community by defeating American hero Frances Tiafoe in a five-set epic.

If Alcaraz emerges victorious, he’ll become the youngest men’s world No. 1 in history.

Earlier on Sunday, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek won her third grand slam singles title, defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in straight sets on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The US Open men’s singles final is scheduled to get underway at 6am AEST.
