Fremantle have just produced the best quarter of footy by any team this year.

The Dockers piled on eight goals to one to do what no team has been able to do this year – leave Melbourne shellshocked and out of answers (on the MCG, no less).

The visitors ramped up the pressure, dominated the contested marks, blitzed Melbourne at the stoppages and the reigning premiers quite simply could not cope.

This is the biggest challenge the Demons have faced since last year’s grand final when they trailed by 19 points midway through the third term.

Fremantle are smashing the Demons in marks 90-51 and contested marks 15-4, and they’re also leading the disposals 284-274, contested possessions 109-104, tackles 42-36, clearances 31-25, inside 50s 43-40, hitouts 29-21 and scoring shots 19-17.

This game is far from over, but Melbourne will need a strong response to win (which they’re absolutely capable of).
